Transforming Lives Through Action
From emergency COVID-19 responses to long-term legal empowerment, our programs address the most pressing needs of minority communities in Western Kenya.
1. Strategic Litigation on human right and climatic justice
WPCN works on litigating cases in the public interest. Since we began litigating advocacy in 2021, we have two cases with significant impact.
2. Legislative advocacy(Evident Bill & policy advocacy).
No legal framework on Our Needs No fund allocation.WPCN assess and identify community need with the legal gap, draft policy or Bill then approach desired state department for adoption and development of the drafted policy or Bill. With our expertise, we support government either expertise and financing the policy committes engagements.
3. Organization capacity strengthening.
WPCN partners with Amref -Global Fund to capacity strengthen our affiliates member organizations. Supporting the OCA and ODSS. Establishing board members for affiliates for sustainability, training on resource mobilization, support on developing and reviewing of their statutes and policies.
4. Safety and Security Response
Uhai-Eashri has been a our supporter of this pillar. We respond to emergency security incidents affecting LGBTIQ in Kenya. We provide three categories of support; Relocation, safe house services and ART/ARV access in most needful moment.
5. Health intervention
Partnership with other organization and County Governments, we ensure quality services are provided and access by our community
Strategic Litigation
Building on Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, which transitioned Kenya into an open and democratic society based on human dignity, equality, equity and freedom, WPCN has engaged in incremental litigation to make the case that the new constitution protects all citizens in Kenya regardless of their state of sex and gender identity.
In 2025 August we filed a Beyond Census Petition No. 492 of 2025
Six years after 2019 census, we collectively petition for budgetary inclusion of 1524 intersex persons and above in Kenya. We have basketed a number positive court orders to respondents who is government of Kenya. Rejoined by Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, Katiba Institute and Nexgen lawyers as interested parties. Click to see efforts on media engagement on the petition.
Legislative advocacy on Economic and budgetary inclusion legal framework
Migori County Intersex Bill 2023
WPCN is the brain child of data driven devolved action for county policies and Bill Intersex persons in Kenya. Supporting the County government -department of gender,health and county attorney’s office to draft and develop economic and budgetary inclusion policies to ensure intersex child/youth sparely gets county governors school scholarships like other enjoys.Intersex adults join labour force and access to enterprise/ business fund, this will reduce vulnerability among-st intersex persons in communities. Migori Youth policy 2024;
WPCN leverages on the available policies for our issues inclusion. Pushing for insertion of issues affecting gender and sex minorities. Beyond Migori Youth policy, we have an ongoing Migori County Gender Based Violence Policy.
Networking and allies building
WPCN believe in collaboration and joint efforts toward advocating for change in the world. We are members Civicus Global Alliance , Pan Africa ILGA, Western Kenya Situation Room, Migori County Civil Society Forum,Community of Action in Kenya, GBV Prevention Network.
