6. Service To Older GBMSM

SERVICE ACCESSIBILITY GAP AMONG THE OLDER GBMSM’S OF AGE 36 AND ABOVE IN MIGORI COUNTY

Over years 6 years, it has been noticed and documented at WPCN in every annual assembly that men having sex with men/Gay/Trans persons of age 36 years and above do not access the available HIV/AIDS and Reproductive health services at Dices. This is by the virtue that they presume Dices are meant for young ones and sex workers. GBMSM who are aged 36-70 years old are fearful of experiencing discrimination, moral judgment, mistreatment and confidentiality in health care settings. This prejudices and creates internalized (self) stigma among the aged GBMSM’s. As a result, many men who have sex with men in Migori County are living with undiagnosed STI which put them on a higher risk of HIV.As global Sustainable Development Goals sets an ambitious goal to leave no one behind and endeavor to reach the furthest behind first. WPCN examine disadvantages different segment of population face, empower those left behind and enact inclusive and progressive policies to enhance equity.

Having this in mind, HIV infection rate among GBMSM in Migori will never drop if the older GBMSM community is not reached and served. The Older GBMSM remains the convincing ringers on sexuality and sexual intercourse decision makers. Funnily, infecting the young ones because of cash and low condom/lubs bargaining power.

8. Gay and Bisexual fishing business challenge

Fishing sector is the largest and reliable economic activity along L.Victoria beaches, representing 90%. For a while fishing has been built on sex exchange for favor .Same sex is sex, but looked upon like another curse and debate in the beach management units and beach community. Gay and Bisexual women/men often keep relocating from one beach to another when identified and spot. As usual, frequent business relocation is a loss return. Relocating for new spaces and faces. Running away from stigma and discrimination including; lack of fish market, attacks, exposure, lack of employees and their boats set on fire. At WPCN we MUST talk for EQUITY and economic rights along the lake in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

We committed to sustaining all funded projects. By this we engage our Development and sustainable Department into agree business of sweet potato. Besides, membership beauty house is committed to sustaining programs annually.
